Building Benezette began as a digital journal—a way to document the blueprints, the dirt, and the intentional vision of creating In The Sticks Cabins. It started as a story of how two people’s plans merged into a real business meant to sustain a family and a shared life in these woods. Today, that story has evolved into one woman, four walls, a lot of caffeine, and a steadfast commitment to this landscape.
As I’ve navigated the highs of successful seasons and the lows of personal and professional uncertainty, I realized that “Building Benezette” isn’t just about my business. It’s about the heartbeat of this entire valley.
From a Story to a Resource
I am evolving this space into a digital town square for those who love the PA Wilds as much as I do. Whether you are here for a weekend of elk viewing or you’re working to build your own sustainable reality in a rural town, my goal is to be your “good neighbor.”
For the Wanderer
If you’ve ever sat on a rustic porch in the early morning mist listening to a bull elk bugle, you know this place is magic. But finding the best spots, the shortest lines for great food, or the quietest (or easiest!) trails can be a challenge.
I’m here to help you navigate Benezette and the surrounding PA Great Outdoors with confidence. On this site, you’ll find –
- Curated Itineraries – From relaxing getaways to family-friendly day trips.
- Local Spotlights – My favorite small businesses that make our community thrive.
- The Insider View – Real-time updates on seasons, events, and what to expect when you visit the heart of PA Elk Country.
For the Builder
Running a small business in a seasonal town is tough. I’ve learned (the hard way) how to manage growth, hire the right people, and market on a budget. I believe that when one of us succeeds, the whole community wins.
I’m sharing my ‘behind the scenes’ toolkit to help you grow. I’m currently developing resources on –
- Hiring and Operations – Finding help and keeping the experience consistent.
- Marketing the ‘Magic’ – How to tell (and define) your story so guests can’t wait to book or shop.
- The ‘Good Neighbor’ Strategy – How to build a business that supports and respects the local community.
The Heart Behind the Hub
I am still the owner of In The Sticks Cabins. I am still the person evaluating the water softener salt bin levels, sweeping the porches, and working daily to secure the future of my livelihood. I’ve learned that life – much like a Benezette winter – can be harsh. But I’ve also learned that the best way to get through it is to build something meaningful for others. This blog is my way of doing exactly that.
Welcome to Building Benezette. I’m so glad you’re here.
